TruthSnap wins Rep. Aaron Bean’s 2025 Congressional App Challenge in Florida’s Fourth District
Rep. Aaron Bean has named Sushaan Kandukoori, Jackson Miller, Avaneesh Parvathareddy, and Grishma Madukuri of Stanton College Preparatory as the winners of the 2025 Congressional App Challenge in Florida’s Fourth District. Their app TruthSnap uses AI analysis to fact-check videos and media.
When asked what inspired the creation of TruthSnap, the students said, “TruthSnap was inspired by watching the constant spread of misinformation on social media platforms like TikTok and Reels. Oftentimes, breaking news alerts and viral videos are constructed by false news and half-convincing truths. The speedy spread of misinformation on such platforms becomes frustrating and a part of everyday scrolling. Almost nobody would take the time to check and verify each fact due to the numerous steps from leaving the app to searching manually on a new browser. In order to remove these difficulties and streamline the process, TruthSnap makes it easy to verify facts on the internet with the simple click of the share button. This effortless integration allows for the nagging questions on whether something is true or not to be checked as easily as sharing a reel.
“This inspiration was partially from the fact that most people nowadays allow for misinformation to dictate their beliefs and decisions, which often leads to inaccurate arguments. To prevent this continuous cycle, we created an app that stops the spread of misinformation before it can start. Additionally, it feels rewarding to discover that the truth allows one to speak more effectively with valid arguments. TruthSnap utilizes habits that people already have and turns them into quick positive feedback. The verifiable sources and instant response allow the speed of truth to outweigh misinformation. Overall, TruthSnap was a result of both frustration and curiosity regarding society’s everyday scrolling.”
The 2025 Congressional App Challenge marked another record-setting year for the program. A total of 394 Members of the U.S. House of Representatives hosted App Challenges in their congressional districts, the highest level of participation in the program’s history. More than 13,800 students from across the country participated, submitting over 4,600 original apps focused on real-world challenges ranging from health and accessibility to education, sustainability, and civic engagement.
The Congressional App Challenge is an official initiative of the U.S. House of Representatives that encourages middle school and high school students to learn to code, explore computer science, and build practical technology solutions for their communities. Each participating Member of Congress selects a winning app from their district, and winning teams are invited to showcase their projects to Members of Congress, staff, and industry leaders at the annual #HouseOfCode celebration on Capitol Hill.
The Challenge is proudly bipartisan and reflects a shared commitment to expanding access to STEM education and preparing the next generation of American innovators for the future workforce. The program is a public-private partnership made possible through funding from the Broadcom Foundation, AWS, Infosys Foundation USA, theCoderSchool, Apple, and others.
The 2026 Congressional App Challenge will launch in May, and eligible students can pre-register for the competition now.
