ReCheck wins Rep. Eugene Vindman’s 2025 Congressional App Challenge in Virginia’s Seventh District
Rep. Eugene Vindman has named Pranav Vedula of Colonial Forge High School as the winner of the 2025 Congressional App Challenge in Virginia’s Seventh District. Their app ReCheck is a productivity game that aims to help dementia patients or people with poor memory reinforce their daily routines through a step-by-step to-do list and task sequencing exercises.
When asked what inspired the creation of ReCheck, Pranav Vedula said, “The inspiration behind ReCheck is my grandparents. Specifically, my grandfather often struggles with remembering tasks and is helped by my grandmother throughout the day, making sure my grandfather remembers tasks like taking his medication or attending appointments. When I showed ReCheck to my grandparents, they were extremely impressed and proud of me. Eyes glowing, my grandpa exclaimed how he couldn’t wait to try the app out for himself! It’s cases like these that ReCheck aims to improve—taking small steps to enforce routines so that people can enjoy other things.
“I know that my problem is far from unique. Millions of people globally have dementia, which impairs core daily functions and causes patients to rely heavily on caregivers. This reliance can strain relationships, placing emotional and physical burdens on caregivers while leaving those with dementia feeling frustrated. ReCheck was born out of the desire to ease this weight, helping individuals maintain their independence through gentle, structured, and gamified reminders and giving caregivers the peace of mind that their loved ones are supported.”
The 2025 Congressional App Challenge marked another record-setting year for the program. A total of 394 Members of the U.S. House of Representatives hosted App Challenges in their congressional districts, the highest level of participation in the program’s history. More than 13,800 students from across the country participated, submitting over 4,600 original apps focused on real-world challenges ranging from health and accessibility to education, sustainability, and civic engagement.
The Congressional App Challenge is an official initiative of the U.S. House of Representatives that encourages middle school and high school students to learn to code, explore computer science, and build practical technology solutions for their communities. Each participating Member of Congress selects a winning app from their district, and winning teams are invited to showcase their projects to Members of Congress, staff, and industry leaders at the annual #HouseOfCode celebration on Capitol Hill.
The Challenge is proudly bipartisan and reflects a shared commitment to expanding access to STEM education and preparing the next generation of American innovators for the future workforce. The program is a public-private partnership made possible through funding from the Broadcom Foundation, AWS, Infosys Foundation USA, theCoderSchool, Apple, and others.
The 2026 Congressional App Challenge will launch in May, and eligible students can pre-register for the competition now.
