NotificationBot wins Rep. Brendan Boyle’s 2025 Congressional App Challenge in Pennsylvania’s Second District

Rep. Brendan Boyle has named Andrew Kuang of Arts Academy at Benjamin Rush High School as the winner of the 2025 Congressional App Challenge in Pennsylvania’s Second District. Their app NotificationBot is a powerful automation application for Discord designed to take the repetitive workload off server moderators and administrators.

When asked what inspired the creation of NotificationBot, Andrew Kuang said, “I built NotificationBot because over the past few years, I’ve watched Discord administrators and server staff spend way too much time manually managing routine communication. Announcements would often be typed out from scratch, copying information from multiple websites, and this left plenty of room for spelling mistakes, delays, or inconsistent formatting. It wasn’t efficient, and it definitely wasn’t enjoyable work.

“The same issue existed with welcoming new members. Most servers still rely on either generic default greetings made by Discord themselves or staff manually messaging new members, which is inconsistent and easy to forget during busy times. A welcoming system should feel personal and on-brand for each community, but not require hours of configuration or constant maintenance.

“So I decided to build a fast and reliable Discord integration that handles these tasks automatically. NotificationBot pulls the right information directly from the source and sends clean, accurate notifications without the manual copy-paste process. The welcoming system allows server owners to create custom first impressions that reflect their community’s personality—all managed through a clear, easy-to-use dashboard.

“My goal is to eliminate repetitive administrative work, so server teams can focus on what actually matters: growing their communities, engaging with members, and building better experiences—instead of repetitive tasks.”

The 2025 Congressional App Challenge marked another record-setting year for the program. A total of 394 Members of the U.S. House of Representatives hosted App Challenges in their congressional districts, the highest level of participation in the program’s history. More than 13,800 students from across the country participated, submitting over 4,600 original apps focused on real-world challenges ranging from health and accessibility to education, sustainability, and civic engagement.

The Congressional App Challenge is an official initiative of the U.S. House of Representatives that encourages middle school and high school students to learn to code, explore computer science, and build practical technology solutions for their communities. Each participating Member of Congress selects a winning app from their district, and winning teams are invited to showcase their projects to Members of Congress, staff, and industry leaders at the annual #HouseOfCode celebration on Capitol Hill.

The Challenge is proudly bipartisan and reflects a shared commitment to expanding access to STEM education and preparing the next generation of American innovators for the future workforce. The program is a public-private partnership made possible through funding from the Broadcom Foundation, AWS, Infosys Foundation USA, theCoderSchool, Apple, and others.

The 2026 Congressional App Challenge will launch in May, and eligible students can pre-register for the competition now.
