Congress, Coders Headline Sucessful #HouseOfCode

Over 900 App Challengers, Members of Congress, and tech professionals took part in last week’s #HouseOfCode, the largest student app developer demo day of its kind. Hundreds of Members of Congress virtually hosted their districts’ Congressional App Challenge winners for a student celebration demo day unlike anything else in Washington, and if you missed out, you can read all about it below!

#HouseOfCode Kickoff Celebration

#HouseOfCode began with our Kickoff Celebration featuring keynotes from Karlie Kloss, Hadi Partovi, Rep. Jennifer Wexton, Rep. Young Kim, Rep. Ted Lieu, Rep. Rodney Davis, and many more Members of Congress and friends of the program. Keynote speakers discussed creators, STEM education, and the work of the the 2021 App Challengers. Recognizing Their Work: Student Demos

 

The other major component of our multi-day event are the Student Demonstrations, where winners had the opportunity to showcase their work. Including an audience of congressional staff, tech entrepreneurs, their fellow competitors and more, over 200 students from 130 districts participated.

Congressional Co-Chairs Recognized Student Winners

Recognizing the immense talent and potential the future’s coders hold, Congressional App Challenge Co-chairs Jennifer Wexton (VA-10) and Young Kim (CA-39) delivered remarks on the house floor commemorating competitors and lauding the students’ efforts during the 2021 Challenge.


“Learning STEM skills helps create opportunities for students, strengthens our future economy and boosts U.S. competitiveness abroad,” said Representative Kim. 

 

“Congresswoman Kim and I are honored to Co-Chair this effort, and offer our remarks here as a testament to the dedication of these students who embody the future of American ingenuity,” said Representative Wexton.
