The Congressional App Challenge Welcomes Summer Interns

The Congressional App Challenge is thrilled to welcome two new additions to the team, Louisa Belian as the Congressional Affairs Intern, and Nina Groleger as the Communications Intern.

Louisa and Nina are both rising seniors at University of California, Berkeley. They discovered the CAC internships through Cal in the Capital, a program at UCB that brings a cohort of 65 students to Washington DC every summer to work in internships with a strong public service component. Although the program was cancelled this summer, Louisa and Nina were able to connect to the App Challenge beforehand, and are continuing their internships remotely.

Louisa is majoring in Cognitive Science and minoring in Rhetoric. Originally from New Mexico, she has spent the last two summers interning at Los Alamos National Laboratory and has worked to bring STEM to under-served young women in New Mexico by helping to build and teach a Python module at the LANL Summer Physics Camp for Young Women. Throughout her life, she has always been drawn to helping and representing her community, following the example of her family. In her free time, Louisa loves teaching and dancing ballet.

Nina is majoring in Applied Mathematics and minoring in Data Science. She was born in Slovenia and immigrated to the US in 2016. She immediately became involved in STEM education and has since worked as a substitute teacher and development assistant at Crowden Music Center, as well as a technology instructor at Camp Galileo. She enjoys tutoring her classmates and feels a great sense of pride in seeing students succeed in subjects that make them nervous. In her free time, Nina is a member of the San Francisco Symphony Chorus, and loves reading and crochet.

The Congressional App Challenge is a series of concurrent district-wide app development challenges hosted by Members of Congress for middle and high school students. Our mission is to inspire, include, and innovate efforts around STEM, coding and computer science education. This year the App Challenge runs from June 1st to October 19th.
